More details have emerged revealing the extent former President Donald Trump was willing to go in order to stay in power even after losing to Joe Biden in the 2020 elections. Another damning report revealed that Trump instructed his attorney Rudy Giuliani to reach out to Homeland Security and ask about seizing voting machines.
A report by the New York Times claims that Trump told Giuliani to call the Department of Homeland Security and look into seizing voting machines. Giuliani followed the request but was ultimately shut down by the DHS, saying that the department has no legal authority to confiscate voting machines.
The request by the former president came as his allies Michael Flynn and Sidney Powell pushed for using the US military to seize the machines. According to the newspaper’s sources, Giuliani was against the move.
Giuliani reportedly told Trump not to use the military unless there was clear evidence of foreign interference in the election. Powell insisted that she had proof of foreign interference despite the courts determining that she did not have proof. Trump ultimately followed Giuliani’s advice and did not sign the executive order.
Aside from asking the DHS, Trump also turned to his then-Attorney General Bill Barr about the DOJ confiscating the machines. Barr rejected the inquiry.
The new revelations made by the newspaper indicated that the now-former president was a lot more involved in exploring proposals to use the federal agencies to seize voting machines in his desperate attempt to find evidence of election fraud that he claims were the reason for his loss to this day.
Aside from the latest revelation by the Times, the former president also made revelatory comments through his latest statements and his latest rally in Texas. Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin, who serves on the congressional committee probing the insurrection, said that Trump is also targeting his Republican allies just as much as he is attacking Democrats.
Raskin revealed on MSNBC that the panel is already close to uncovering the truth as its investigation continued. Raskin said that the riots of January 6, 2021, also targeted Republicans just as much as Democrats.
“The violent insurrection was directed as much at his – some of his Republican allies – as it was against the Democrats and against the Constitution. He wanted to make sure that they went through with his plan, and that’s why he unleashed the violence against them,” said Raskin.
